West Coast One Wind Energy Facility

Project Summary

Windlab identified the West Coast One site as one of the premier potential wind farm projects in the Western Cape and began developing it in 2008. West Coast One reached Commercial Operation Date in June 2015.

The project was sold to Investec Bank along with a portfolio of 14 projects in South Africa, later to be taken up by Moyeng Energy (Engie [formerly GDF SUEZ], Investec Bank Limited, Tiso Resources (Pty) Ltd), with Windlab remaining responsible for part of the development process, primarily focussed on the wind monitoring strategy, implementation and resource modelling.

West Coast One was awarded Preferred Bidder status in the second window of the Renewable Energy IPP Procurement Programme (REIPPP) in May 2012. The project signed a 20 year Power Purchase Agreement with the Eskom and an implementation agreement with the Department of Energy in May 2013.

Financial Close for the project was achieved in June 2013.

West Coast One was commissioned in June 2015.
